OMG Gin 08.08.2013
The way we started the revolution with the first Czech distilled absinths, we also revolutionised gin.
The idea of creating our own gin popped up at a public tasting event in Brno. After tasting our juniper spirit, people were curious if we planned to make gin. The seed was planted.
There are hundreds of brands of gin on the market, and dozens of excellent ones. So a distiller cannot come up with something worse and then apologise for being a novice in the field. Our advantage was our six-year experience with making absinth. We learned a lot about herbs, the maceration period, and distillation. And so we began to prepare gin in the same way as absinth, only the herbs were different.
We made 100 litres and the product simply stunned me. I liked it so much that permanent production was decided immediately. The only thing that wasn’t decided was the name. The very first idea was calling it G-Spot Gin 🙂 We even managed to register a trademark as well as the Internet domain, it was so obvious to us. A few weeks after making the first batch, I tasted it again and thought, “Oh, my god, that’s so good.” OMG!
On 29 December 2013, the first few cases of labelled bottles hit the shelves of the Sklizeno shop in Brno. And the Internet-based magazine Proti šedi mentioned our gin just a day later.
OMG is currently fourth among the biggest-sellers of our distillery, exported to Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, Slovakia, Canada, and Singapore.
