We used transparent, self-adhesive film with graphics reduced to the simplest possible form. A fruit symbol, the product name, and \u017duf\u00e1nek. The look was unlike any other bottles sold at the time. No folk motifs, no painted cellars, no folk costumes. Just pure and elegant symbols.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>But, over time, these simple fruit symbols became a sort of industrial standard, used today by almost every Czech manufacturer of fruit spirits. And so the time was ripe to change the labels.<\/p>\n<p>After 16 years, we are <strong>abandoning the fruit symbols<\/strong>, our version of Egyptian hieroglyphics, and are <strong>switching to Latin characters<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3734 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.zufanek.cz\/files\/smush-webp\/2018\/05\/zufanek-redesign.jpg.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"269\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/www.zufanek.cz\/files\/smush-webp\/2018\/05\/zufanek-redesign.jpg.webp 2417w, https:\/\/www.zufanek.cz\/files\/smush-webp\/2018\/05\/zufanek-redesign-300x147.jpg.webp 300w, https:\/\/www.zufanek.cz\/files\/smush-webp\/2018\/05\/zufanek-redesign-600x294.jpg.webp 600w\" data-sizes=\"auto\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 550px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 550\/269;\" data-original-sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The new labels are more aggressive, more visible, and more comprehensible. Each label is dominated <strong>by a letter<\/strong>, seemingly put in quotes. In this way, we are creating an alphabet in addition to our other products. <strong>A basic alcoholic alphabet<\/strong>. New call signs. Not Oscar Bravo Sierra for OBS, but O\u0159echovka Borovi\u010dka Slivovitz (Walnut Juniper Plum). All \u017duf\u00e1nek made, from A to \u017d.<\/p>\n<p>Though elegant and attractive, the previous symbols almost ceased to have their distinguishing function. And that\u2019s bad. After all, there are no huge differences between the shape of a plum and a greengage plum. Or between an apricot and a peach. It is different with letters. But we\u2019re not taking any chances, so we\u2019re placing our bets on the primary-signal system \u2013 the colours usually associated with the individual fruits. Moreover, with oak-barrel-aged products, inverted colours are used to accentuate the difference.<\/p>\n<p>Above the letter for each product, the labels newly specify the product\u2019s categorisation. We therefore have fruit spirits, fruit liqueurs, herbal distillates, herbal liqueurs, and honey<br \/>\nliqueur.<\/p>\n<p>The product names are also introduced in English \u2013 for export. Though the original label for Reine Claude included a greengage symbol, not many people abroad understood exactly what it was.<\/p>\n<p>The design will change in all the basic series, now united by the same graphic style,<br \/>\ncomprising our Slivovitz (Plum Brandy), Hru\u0161kovice (Pear Brandy), their oak-barrel-aged<br \/>\nvariants, Meru\u0148kovice (Apricot Brandy), Reine Claude (Greengage Plum Brandy), O\u0159echovka (Walnut Liqueur), Vi\u0161\u0148ovka (Sour Cherry Liqueur), Medov\u00fd \u017duf\u00e1nek (\u017duf\u00e1nek Honey Liqueur) and Borovi\u010dka (Juniper Brandy). All other products \u2013 absinthes, gins, geists \u2013 remain unchanged. The re-design was aimed at refreshing the oldest product series that basically had not changed since 2002.<\/p>\n<p>The new style will be first introduced on our brand new 100 ml bottles, on sale from 23 May 2018, including products we\u2019ve never before sold in small bottles \u2013 Borovi\u010dka, plus Slivovitz and Hru\u0161kovice aged in oak barrels.
